He is currently co-supervising two PhD students at Halmstad University and teaching several courses related to artificial intelligence, machine learning and programming. Mohamed-Rafik Bouguelia is currently doing research related to predictive maintenance and anomaly detection in complex systems. He designs machine learning algorithms that process large amounts of sensors data streaming from various machines, in order to monitor them and detect imminent failures before they happen. These algorithms can interact with human experts, take their feedback into consideration, and automatically learn from the data what constitutes a normal behavior and what constitutes an abnormal behavior. These methods can be applied to a wide range of application domains, going from vehicles to trains to heat-pumps and district heating substations.

A project sponsored by the European Regional Development Fund

AI.m is a collaborative project sponsored by the European Regional Development Fund, Region Halland, Halmstad Högskola and the city of Halmstad through HighFive.

The main goal for AI.m is for small and medium-sized companies in Halland to increase their innovation capabilities and competitive edge through AI-based service development, which in turn will contribute to increased regional growth.

We will apply agile working with an approximate total of 20 participating companies over 3 cycles to learn, analyse, evaluate and implement AI-driven service innovation with the companies’ identified challenges as the starting point. The expected outcome of the project is an increased understanding by the participating companies of the possibilities of AI and how the technology can create competitive, as well as sustainability advantages within their own businesses as well as to identify a number of concrete AI-possibilities.

Long-term the project is expected to result in a permanent regional AI-hub supporting companies in working strategically with AI-driven service development. This, in turn, is expected to lead to an increased competitive edge and growth/new hires within the companies through new service innovations.
